Welcome to Walhalla High School

Serving approximately 1150 students, Walhalla High School (WHS) is the largest high school in Oconee County. The building and grounds at the school are six years old and are in excellent condition. All students at WHS have an assigned chromebook and the majority of teachers use Canvas as a learning management tool. WHS competes in the 4A athletic classification in the South Carolina High School League as one of the smallest 4A schools in the State. The largest minority group at Walhalla High School is  the Hispanic population and approximately 15% of our students are considered Hispanic or Latino. WHS is staffed by approximately 120 individuals including certified and classified staff, as well as adjunct coaches.

The mission of Walhalla High School is “Together we are empowering lifelong learners by building rapport and providing relevant, rigorous instruction.” Teachers, administrators, success coaches, stakeholders and staff work together to establish a framework to carry out the mission in many ways. Our teachers are departmentalized and have a strong voice in our course offerings and how we do business on a daily basis. We offer a variety of courses, including many Advanced Placement (AP) courses, as well as classes that target career readiness. An active School Improvement Council (SIC), who develops and implements strategies to target building rapport with all stakeholders and assist in goal setting for our school, is one of the strengths of WHS.

Our guidance team, with the support of three success coaches, works to ensure students are heard and supported through many activities including, but not limited to, counseling, tutoring, individualized educational plans (IEPs), individualized graduation plans (IGPs), and attendance interventions. The school has a strong support system for our students with special needs through a peer support and service learning system. Many of our students are enrolled in dual credit courses through Tri-County Technical College and the Hamilton Career and Technology Center.  Historically our school has the highest number of enrollees at the Hamilton Career Center and we advise our students to explore a variety of different  avenues in their educational pursuits.
